In 1968, to penetrate the Hong Kong cigarette market, the Shanghai Cigarette Factory experimented with American-style brands such as the Torch and Red Light, while also entering the Eastern European market. However, due to the political connotations of the trademarks, they were unable to make significant progress. In 1971, the brand was renamed 金鹿 (Jinlu) and re-entered the Hong Kong market. By 1975, 金鹿 cigarettes were launched domestically as a product for internal sales. Today, "金鹿" is a bespoke brand crafted by Shanghai Tobacco to expand its overseas market, and it has been designated by the national bureau as a key international brand for cultivation and development.

1968年,为打开香港卷烟市场,上海卷烟厂试制美式烟火炬牌和红灯牌,同时进入东欧市场。后因商标带有政治色彩未能打开局面。1971年改名金鹿牌重新进入香港市场,1975年,金鹿牌卷烟作为内销烟投放国内市场。现“金鹿”是上海烟草为拓展海外市场量身定做的专属品牌,也是被国家局列为重点培育和发展的国际性品牌。
